Party

First class had a party last Monday to celebrate their participation in the First Holy Communion. We ate our goodies in the park and had a game of football afterwards.

First Holy Communion

Some of the children from first class were part of the choir who sang at the first Holy Communion last Saturday. All the boys and girls from second class looked lovely. Next year it'll be our turn!

Outdoor Games

We all enjoyed the lovely, hot sunshine last week. Teacher brought us outside to play tennis, football and parachute games.

African Displays in our Classroom

Learning about Africa is very interesting. Did you know that tiger cubs are born blind? They open their eyes after 10 to 14 days. We read a book about African animals called We all went on safari - A Counting Journey through Tanzania by Laurie Krebs. We made our own counting book called We all went to the beach. We also made sunset pictures and designs to show Swahili names.

Africa

We're learning all about Africa for the month of April. We learned many interesting facts about animals... Did you know that a giraffe has seven bones in its neck, the same number as a human?
Did you know that all tigers have different patterns of stripes?
We mixed red and yellow paint to make nice sunset pictures. We cut out black silhouettes of African animals and stuck them on when the paint dried. Ms. Tierney told us all about the time she spent teaching in Uganda last summer. She dressed up some children in grass skirts and showed us some toys made from banana leaves.

Drum Lessons

First class are lucky enough to be taking drum lessons for the next 6 weeks. Alan Preims from Coole Music is the teacher. He'll cover rhythm and movement using drums as the teaching tool. The children will benefit greatly in the areas of co-ordination, teamwork and how to follow non-verbal commands.

New teachers in 1st class!

Ms. Sugrue and Ms. Rushe have been teaching us for the past week. They are first year trainee teachers. We had lots of fun making musical instuments, playing games and learning new songs!

Happy Easter

Yum, yum we love Easter Eggs! We used pencil toppings, crepe paper and tin foil to make a colourful collage!

Happy Saint Patrick's Day

Yesterday, we went outside to watch the Scoil Chaitriona Senior School band. It was a very cold day, but it was so exciting to see so many children playing instruments and marching. We all hope to be part of the school band some day. We made St Patricks Day badges and showed them off, as the band passed by.

Spring

Look at the wonderful Spring Lambs we made. We weaved white wool around a paper plate to make the body.

Fire, Fire, Fire!

The Fire Brigade came to visit us. We were all so excited when the firemen let us spray the hose and try on their hard hats. They even let us inside the fire engine and they turned on the siren! We asked them lots of questions about their work. They wear special fire proof clothes that prevent them from getting burnt.
